Cassidy:
In October 2015 Tom and I decided to meet back up at the same place we had randomly met some 3 weeks earlier, Trueman's Place in Soulard. I remember trying to keep it casual, and hoped to keep it short as it was a weekday- that and after several weeks of him asking me out I had only agreed to "a drink". I remember exactly where we sat, and I recall very easy conversation. It was obvious he had a big personality, a genuine heart, and was really intelligent. At the end of the date he walked me home (across the street) and as I stepped up on my sidewalk he pulled me around for a kiss. I still wasn't completely sold on a second date!
Tom:
Getting her to go on the first date was hard enough. The first night we met we exchanged numbers and in subsequent days/weeks I text her several times and she showed some interest (I doubt she'd admit it) but wouldn't agree to hang out as she always had another commitment or something scheduled. One Saturday afternoon I decided to call and she actually answered my "random 314 number" thinking it was part of the wedding party she was helping that day. Knowing when a soft close is needed I proposed we meet at Truman's Place in between both our places and where we originally met... Low pressure. She claims to have only agreed to our date to get me off the phone. Met her for a drink, which turned into two, which turned into a few more. We talked the night away and solidified our plans to become a power couple and take over the world. At the end of the night I walked her to her house a few doors down from the bar and as she walked up the steps I turned her around and planted a kiss on her lips and she kissed back and I knew that moment I knew that I was in.
First Date
Cassidy:
The proposal was a big surprise that was way overshadowed and shortly forgotten due to an even bigger surprise (hello baby!). It was an ordinary weeknight, and I had asked Tom to meet me at my favorite sushi spot for dinner after work. After dinner we drove home separately and when I had arrived he was already outside in front of the house with the dogs. He asked me to join him on a quick loop around the neighborhood... not at all out of the ordinary! While on the walk he stopped on the bridge to tie his shoe. I kept walking knowing that with his long legs would catch up in no time. After the third time of him falling behind me on the walk, without a thought, or even real consideration I turned around and said, "Can you stop getting behind me. You're freaking me out like you're going to propose or something!" So that was his moment. He got down on one knee on the brick sidewalk and completely surprised me. I was so genuinely caught off guard I have no idea what he said.
Tom:
Carrying her ring around was one of the most stressful things of my life. I came up with a plan to take the dogs for a walk but I had intentionally left my shoe laces loose enough that I could make it come undone while we we're walking across the bridge by our house. I went down to tie my shoe and look up to grab her attention and she's walking fast away from me. So that was out the window. We kept walking down the hill into Soulard and as we turned on 12th Street where the side walk is still the old brick and uneven from a hundred years of roots I caught her attention again. She asked "Why do you keep looming behind me, you're being weird, what are you going to propose or something?" I replied, "Like this?" and dropped to a knee with my heart in my throat from anxiety. She obviously said "Yes!"
